[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] On the 6th, President Moon Jae-in and Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun disclosed detailed criteria for the recipients of the emergency disaster relief funds to overcome the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) to prevent confusion on the ground, and decided to submit a supplementary budget bill to the National Assembly as soon as possible.

In addition, regarding the support funds for small business owners, which have been delayed due to a sudden increase in demand, they agreed to prepare supplementary measures such as role-sharing among institutions to ensure prompt support on the ground and to closely monitor the progress.

The Prime Minister's Office stated that President Moon and Prime Minister Chung held their weekly meeting at the Blue House on the day to review the COVID-19 quarantine situation and livelihood economy issues and shared these opinions.

Prime Minister Chung reported to President Moon on the domestic and international COVID-19 outbreak situation, as well as key quarantine issues such as ▲extension of high-intensity social distancing ▲preparation for online school openings ▲supply of quarantine supplies.

In response, President Moon said, "Recently, about 90 new daily confirmed cases have been occurring, and the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions are showing a definite calming trend, gradually stabilizing. However, since imported cases continue to occur, thorough measures against this are necessary."

He especially emphasized, "This is a critical turning point whether COVID-19 will enter a stable phase or spread again," and stressed, "The voluntary cooperation of all citizens, including the strict implementation of strong social distancing, is more urgent than ever."

President Moon and Prime Minister Chung also discussed the progress of the 'Three Major National Life Protection Projects' for preventing traffic accidents, industrial accidents, and suicides, which have been promoted at the government-wide level since 2018.

President Moon encouraged, "The decrease in the number of deaths compared to the previous year in all areas such as traffic accidents, industrial accidents, and suicides is the result of joint efforts by the people and the government."

He added, "Compared to the countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), there is still a long way to go," and requested, "Since many citizens are going through difficult times due to COVID-19 this year, I ask the government, led by the Prime Minister, to devote special efforts and attention."
