According to Yang Hyangja's campaign office on the 6th, Hwang Byung-gwan, chairman of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions National Public Labor Union, visited the campaign office with union members to declare support and pledged to cooperate for victory in the general election.
Along with Chairman Hwang, about 10 union members visited, including Kim Il-jeong, Secretary General of the Public Sector Union, Seo Jeong-woo, Director of Public Relations, Park Jong-seok, Chairman of the Rural Fisheries Corporation Labor Union, Ga Young-jin, Deputy Chair of External Cooperation of the Workers' Welfare Corporation Labor Union, Lee Jong-in, Director of the Gwangju Headquarters, and Son Doo-hee, Director of the Gwangju Office.
Chairman Hwang stated, "In a situation where the national crisis caused by COVID-19 is intensifying more than ever, the Korean Federation of Trade Unions declares support for candidate Yang Hyangja, who strives to overcome the national economic crisis, create a society without discrimination and exclusion, respect workers' rights, and realize the value of labor."
He added, "Among the Democratic Party candidates in the Gwangju area, we are the first to declare support for candidate Yang Hyangja. We will fully support the election victory within the scope permitted by election laws with the united strength of our affiliated union members for the labor-friendly candidate who respects the value of labor, candidate Yang Hyangja."
In response, candidate Yang said, "I am very honored to be the first Democratic Party candidate in the Gwangju area to receive support from the Korean Federation of Trade Unions," and added, "I will do my best to protect workers' rights and advance our society toward a labor-respecting society."
She continued, "The Gwangju-type job, a key issue in Gwangju, is a project that can be established based on the cooperation of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions," emphasizing, "I will continue efforts to resolve issues through consultation with the Korean Federation of Trade Unions."
Meanwhile, on the 10th of last month, the Democratic Party Central Committee and the Korean Federation of Trade Unions presented five major visions and twenty joint promises for the labor sector to realize a sustainable labor-respecting society and agreed to unite and cooperate in all fields to implement them.
Accordingly, the Korean Federation of Trade Unions is declaring support for labor-respecting candidates among Democratic Party candidates, selected through its own evaluation process.
