Gyeonggi Fire Department Rolls Up Sleeves to Improve Integrity... Selects 30 Key Tasks

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters has rolled up its sleeves to improve integrity.

The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters announced on the 6th that under this year's vision of 'Creating a Communicative, Considerate, and Fair Gyeonggi Fire Service,' it has selected 30 key tasks to improve integrity and will begin implementing them.

First, as an integrity policy focused on communication to enhance internal satisfaction, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters will conduct ▲effective integrity education ▲strengthen internal communication measures ▲provide legal support for employee grievances.

They will promote integrity education concerts that combine artistic performances with integrity education such as improving integrity by region and training on prohibition of power abuse and the Anti-Graft Act. Additionally, to contribute to creating a Gyeonggi Fire Service that listens to and communicates with employees' complaints, they will activate the operation of free discussion forums. In particular, they will operate female counselors for female employee grievance consultations and reports of sexual misconduct.

With a considerate heart toward civil complaints, to improve external integrity, they will also implement improvements in civil complaint handlers' work, preemptive blocking of corruption factors, and public declarations of integrity commitment.

They will expand the operation of the Fire Happy Call, which measures the kindness of work handlers, and prepare an integrity pledge contest by producing and signing integrity pledge posters and posting them by department to strengthen the commitment to integrity.

To establish a fair 119 integrity organizational culture, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters will promote enhancement of fire station integrity capabilities and advancement of station integrity policies, and improve the property registration system by requiring mandatory property registration currently applied to fire sergeants (Grade 7) and above to be extended to fire captains (Grade 4) and above. They will also expand the comprehensive evaluation of fire stations.

Previously, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters achieved significant results by implementing various integrity improvement measures last year, including entering the top ranks for nine consecutive years in the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission's integrity evaluation.

In particular, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters played a major role in continuously recommending to the government to exclude fire lieutenants and fire captains, who handle field work, from the property registration target, thereby adjusting the scope of property registration subjects.

According to legal amendments, from June, fire lieutenants and fire captains who handle field work, not regulatory tasks such as permits, investigations, or crackdowns, will be excluded from the property registration target.

A Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters official emphasized, "We will focus on creating an image of a 'Kind Gyeonggi Fire Service' for residents by improving the kindness awareness of field activity fire officers," and added, "To meet the expectations of residents following the transition to national status, we will pursue higher goals and achieve an integrity Gyeonggi Fire Service."
