Gyeongnam Gimhae-si Invests 1.3 Billion KRW to Support 839 Unpaid Leave and Special Employment Workers

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gimhae City, Gyeongnam Province, is launching support measures for special employment workers, freelancers, and unpaid leave workers at small businesses who face increased livelihood burdens due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) crisis.

Gimhae City announced that, following announcements and promotions of the 'COVID-19 Regional Employment Response Special Support Project' targeting special employment workers including home tutors, the project will be implemented starting from the 29th of this month.

The total budget is 1.27 billion KRW (entirely funded by the national government), and the support target size is approximately 839 people. Applicants can apply in person at the Job Support Center on the first floor of the Happy Civil Service Building at City Hall, or via email or mail, from the 8th to the 20th.

Under the special support project, special employment workers and freelancers who have been unable to work for more than five days since the COVID-19 alert was raised to the 'serious' stage on February 23 can receive 25,000 KRW per day, up to a maximum of 40 days (1 million KRW).

This includes home tutors, substitute drivers, after-school instructors, insurance planners, construction machinery and sports instructors and trainers, loan and credit card solicitors, theater and film workers, leisure and tourism service workers, golf course caddies, delivery drivers, and quick service couriers.

Additionally, workers enrolled in employment insurance at businesses with fewer than 50 employees who have implemented unpaid leave due to COVID-19 can receive employment stabilization support funds of up to 500,000 KRW per month for two months; this application is to be submitted collectively by the employer.

Furthermore, a short-term job project will be promoted for daily workers, special employment workers, and freelancers who have been unemployed for more than one month since the first domestic COVID-19 case was confirmed on January 20.

Jobs will be provided to 88 people, including support for emergency disaster relief fund projects, park facility circulation safety inspections, and flower cultivation facility management projects, with a monthly salary level of 1.8 million KRW per person for up to three months.
