Financial Security Institute Initiates Cyber Incident Response Training for Financial Sector

[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Financial Security Institute announced on the 6th that it will conduct the 2020 financial sector cyber incident response training starting this month to respond to increasingly sophisticated and advanced cyber attacks and the latest cyber threats as an incident response agency in the financial sector.

This year's cyber incident response training will be divided into ▲Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) attacks ▲Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks ▲server hacking attacks. It plans to conduct the training at least once a year for each of the 185 financial companies. As the use of cloud in the financial sector expands, support will be provided to enable training in cloud-based environments as well.

In addition, recent social issues and cyber threat cases will be reflected in the training content, and actual incidents will be reconstructed to continuously conduct cyber incident response training. Accordingly, the Financial Security Institute expects this to greatly contribute to improving the detection, response, and recovery capabilities for cyber incidents across the financial sector.

Kim Young-gi, President of the Financial Security Institute, said, "In a situation where new cyber security threats are increasing due to the digital transformation of finance, we hope that realistic and timely cyber incident response training will enhance the financial sector's ability to respond to and recover from cyber attacks," adding, "especially as cyber attacks exploiting social issues such as the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) or aimed at monetary theft are increasing, we will strengthen preparedness against targeted cyber attacks in the financial sector through solidifying the substance of the training."
