Urgent Meeting Held on the 1st Between Yeongdeungpo District Office and Southern Education Support Office to Prepare for Online School Opening... Remote Class Preparations Begin Ahead of Sequential Online School Opening Starting on the 9th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) held an emergency meeting with the Southern Education Support Office on the 1st, ahead of the phased online school opening scheduled to begin sequentially from the 9th, to discuss learning support measures and prepare proactive countermeasures.
The district, in collaboration with Seoul City and the Education Office, decided to provide online learning devices (laptops) worth approximately 700,000 KRW to students in the area who have difficulty preparing for online school openings, marking the start of full-scale remote class preparations.
On the 2nd, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chae Hyun-il attended the regular COVID-19 briefing with Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, Seoul Education Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon, and other district mayors, expressing his intention to participate in this support policy.
In consultation with the support office, the district discussed learning equipment and personnel to prepare for the online school opening, and under the joint response agreement among Seoul City, the Education Office, and the district, concrete support measures were established, including △ deployment of disinfection personnel in schools △ distribution of cotton masks for students △ installation of internet broadcasting studios for school remote classes △ purchase of information devices (laptops, smart pads).
The district decided that the funding shortage for online learning devices (laptops) for educationally vulnerable students will be supported by Seoul City, the Education Office, and the district at a ratio of 4:4:2, aiming to resolve confusion caused by the online school opening.
Originally scheduled for the April 6 school opening announced in the third phase, the district conducted disinfection and sterilization for all kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools in the area. Once the postponed offline school opening date due to online school opening is confirmed, the district plans to conduct proactive disinfection again.
Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Chae Hyun-il stated, “We are proactively responding to the unprecedented online school opening caused by COVID-19,” and added, “We will prepare thoroughly without any blind spots in education through close cooperation with Seoul City and the Education Office.”
