Garakbon-dong, Jamsilbon-dong, Bangi 2-dong to Install IoT Sensors in 400 Parking Spaces... Recruiting Residents to Share Parking Lots
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is set to officially launch a shared parking platform service utilizing an Internet of Things (IoT) system.
The "Shared Parking Platform Service" allows residents who have been allocated resident-priority parking spaces to share their parking spots through a mobile app during times when they are not using them.
Parking providers can earn 50% of the usage fee as income, while drivers can use parking spaces at an affordable cost for the required time.
The district signed an agreement with Hancom Mobility in December last year and is accelerating the related project with an investment of 4.5 billion KRW.
As the first phase, the district selected Garakbon-dong, Jamsilbon-dong, and Bangi 2-dong as project sites and is installing IoT sensors on approximately 2,000 resident-priority parking spaces to provide the service. These areas are densely populated with shops and restaurants, where there has been high demand for resolving parking issues.
As of the end of March, about 400 sensors have been installed. Through the Songpa-gu Facilities Management Corporation, applications for participation in parking sharing are being accepted from those allocated resident-priority parking spaces.
Residents who wish to participate can contact Parking Friends, the operator of the dedicated mobile app, or add Parking Friends as a Plus Friend on KakaoTalk for one-on-one consultation.
The district plans to gradually install additional sensors over the next year in the three neighborhoods, conduct a pilot operation, analyze the results, and then expand the installation to 15,000 spaces throughout Songpa-gu.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "By sharing parking lots using this IoT technology, we will resolve the long-standing parking difficulties experienced by residents, establish the foundation for a smart city, and implement administration suitable for the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
