[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Park Gyeom-su) will launch the first-ever traditional market delivery service in Seoul using a delivery app starting from the 10th.
This service is a prompt response to the widespread use of mobile shopping, tailored to consumer purchasing patterns. It is a collaborative project involving Gangbuk-gu, market merchant associations (Suyu Market, Suyu Traditional Market, Suyu Jae-rae Market), and the startup company WIJU, conducted through the delivery app "Noljang" (Come to the Market).
"Noljang" is a traditional market-customized platform that allows users to check everything from product preparation to delivery status and estimated time. Orders can be placed at the same prices as purchasing directly at the market. Basic information about the delivery person is shared in real-time with the customer to ensure safe and prompt receipt of goods. If the customer is within a 1.5 km radius of the market, the items will be delivered within 2 hours.
Additionally, an event will be held to celebrate the launch of the service. The first 3,000 customers placing orders will receive a 5,000 KRW voucher, and 5,000 customers will benefit from free delivery. After the event, delivery fees will be waived for orders over 30,000 KRW.
To support this, the district has completed preparations for mobile sales support, including establishing a dedicated delivery center. It is expected that the activation of the delivery service will open new opportunities for traditional markets and provide a foundation to enhance commercial competitiveness.
The district plans to provide full administrative support to gain buyers' trust and encourage widespread use among residents. Depending on user satisfaction, the service will be expanded to cover all traditional markets in the area in the future.
Park Gyeom-su, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, "The mobile order and delivery service will be a great help to traditional market merchants who have been severely impacted by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "We will continue efforts to revitalize the markets and create jobs within the community."
