[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency (Chief Choi Gwanho) announced on the 5th that it will conduct a joint purchase of ‘Eco-friendly Agricultural Produce Packages’ until the 24th to help local farms whose school meal sales channels have been blocked due to COVID-19.
This joint purchase will be conducted by collecting purchase applications from affiliated employees on a weekly basis and delivering and receiving them in bulk.
The agricultural produce packages will include a total of 11 items such as tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and cucumbers sold at the local food direct sales store of the regional agricultural cooperative, offering high-quality local agricultural products at reasonable prices.
In fact, the number of purchase applications received since the 27th of last month exceeded 500 boxes and 10 million won in less than a week, showing that Gwangju police officers are actively participating in this meaningful event.
In addition, prior to promoting this joint purchase, the Gwangju police expanded the closure of the in-house cafeteria to twice a month starting from the 20th of last month, and independently implemented ‘Lunchbox Day,’ where officers bring food from nearby small restaurants for takeout, making multifaceted efforts to revitalize the local economy.
A representative of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency said, “The Gwangju police are united with the hope of providing even a little help to farms and small business owners facing difficulties,” adding, “We will continue to build a close cooperative system with the local community to ensure citizens’ safety and do our best to overcome the COVID-19 crisis by participating in the revitalization of the local economy.”
