Seven Eleven Launches 'Our Neighborhood Side Dish Store' Series

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Seven Eleven announced on the 5th that it will launch the 'Our Neighborhood Side Dish Store' series for consumers who do simple grocery shopping at convenience stores.

The Our Neighborhood Side Dish Store series consists of three items: 'Sausage Vegetable Stir-fry (3,000 won)', 'Tteokgalbi Vegetable Stir-fry (3,000 won)', and 'White Rice (1,000 won)'.

The 'Sausage Vegetable Stir-fry' is made by stir-frying sausage and various vegetables together with chili sauce and ketchup sauce, while the 'Tteokgalbi Vegetable Stir-fry' is seasoned with sweet teriyaki sauce. Additionally, the 'White Rice' uses carefully selected Samgwang rice by a rice sommelier, making it savory and sticky.

To commemorate the launch of these products, Seven Eleven is offering a 500 won discount when purchasing two side dishes (sausage and tteokgalbi vegetable stir-fry) along with white rice until the 13th.

The Our Neighborhood Side Dish Store series was launched as local consumption became normalized due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and more consumers started doing simple grocery shopping at nearby convenience stores.

In fact, an analysis of category sales at residential area stores conducted by Seven Eleven in March showed a significant increase in demand for ready-to-eat meals and grocery-related products.

According to Seven Eleven, sales of ready-to-eat meals that can be easily heated in a microwave increased by 31.7% compared to the same period last year, side dishes rose by 26.6%, and frozen foods, which are in high demand as late-night snacks or appetizers, grew by 24.1%.

Kim Ha-young, the MD (Merchandiser) in charge at Seven Eleven, said, “Due to reasons such as school delays and telecommuting, demand for convenient home meals instead of dining out is increasing,” adding, “We plan to expand the product lineup under the Our Neighborhood Side Dish Store concept in the future.”
