Sold out 5,000 sets in 6 hours in the first round... Supporting supply farms blocked by online school openings
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] On the 6th, Seoul City announced that it will continue selling 'Eco-friendly Agricultural Product Packages' together with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education to support eco-friendly agricultural product farmers whose school meal deliveries have been blocked due to the postponement of elementary, middle, and high school openings followed by online classes.
After the first sale held on the 20th of last month sold out all 5,000 sets within 6 hours, receiving great response, the quantity for this second sale has been doubled to 10,000 sets.
The eco-friendly agricultural product packages consist of produce grown by farmers from nine metropolitan cities and provinces supplying school meal ingredients to schools in Seoul. Each box contains a small quantity of 10 items commonly consumed at home, enough for about 1 to 2 servings, and the carefully selected fresh produce is packed at the production site and immediately delivered to each household to maintain freshness.
The set, which includes 10 items such as potatoes, bell peppers, assorted leafy vegetables, cucumbers, green onions, spinach, zucchini, peeled garlic, king oyster mushrooms, and albite, is priced at 20,000 KRW (including delivery fee). Orders can be placed through the Chungbuk representative production area online shopping mall (http://marketoyou.com), just like in the first sale.
Seoul City explained that the package is composed of agricultural products frequently used at home, resulting in high consumer satisfaction. In particular, parents expressed that it provided an opportunity for their children to try the agricultural products they eat at school at home, increasing trust in school meal ingredients.
Lee Dae-hyun, Director of Lifelong Education Bureau of Seoul City, said, "There are many difficulties in various fields due to the COVID-19 situation, but especially the economic difficulties of eco-friendly agricultural product farmers who cannot supply school meals are severe. Through this campaign, we hope to help farmers and encourage the purchase of eco-friendly certified agricultural products at reasonable prices."
