[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Park Hee-eun] Actress Oh Yoon-ah revealed her story about her 14-year-old son and shared her beliefs.
On the 3rd, KBS 2TV's 'New Product Launch Pyeonstorang' aired a segment where Oh Yoon-ah showed her home where she lives with her 14-year-old son.
Especially in this broadcast, Oh Yoon-ah opened up about her son. She said, "When Min was born, he had respiratory distress. After being in an incubator for half a day, whether it was because of that, at 16 months he developed a hernia," and continued, "Eventually, after visiting the hospital, he underwent major surgery under general anesthesia, but afterward, my son's pupils lost focus. It was from then on," confessing that her son has autism.
She went on, "I consulted with a pediatrician, and they said it was okay, so I sent him to a daycare. Then, when I went to Hong Kong for a photo shoot, I received a call. They said there seemed to be a problem with my son. At that moment, my heart sank, and I thought, 'The inevitable has come.' I naturally had difficult times thinking about why my child became ill," recalling the situation at that time.
In response, her close friend Lee Jung-hyun said, "Oh Yoon-ah is truly a devoted mother who is a fool for her son. Although she sometimes struggles, she educates her son very well. It's admirable," showing her affection for her son.
Oh Yoon-ah also mentioned mothers in similar situations raising autistic children. She said, "Mothers raising autistic children find it difficult to take their kids out," adding, "Many avoid going out from an early age because they worry about causing inconvenience to others. In that sense, I hope that by seeing our Min, many mothers raising children with similar difficulties will come out and go about their lives," expressing her beliefs.
She also revealed the reason for her appearance, saying, "If my menu is launched, I hope it can be used to help children with disabilities."
Lee Kyung-kyu also supported her, saying, "Oh Yoon-ah is right. For our society to mature, these things need to be shown more. Only then will convenience facilities improve," offering his encouragement.
