"It is not a situation to consider support levels"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon explained the reason for installing a dedicated COVID-19 screening clinic for arrivals at Jamsil Sports Complex in Songpa-gu, Seoul, saying it is because "there are many overseas arrivals in the 'Gangnam 3 districts'."
In an interview with KBS Radio on the afternoon of the 3rd, Mayor Park said, "Especially in the Gangnam 3 districts, particularly Songpa, there are many arrivals, so we installed it at the nearby Jamsil Sports Complex."
He emphasized, "The focus of quarantine is on overseas arrivals. All arrivals undergo diagnostic testing, and regardless of negative or positive results, mandatory self-quarantine is enforced. The guideline and policy aim to block the chain of local infections."
He added, "Now is not the time to consider approval ratings. We must focus solely on the safety and lives of citizens without any hesitation and do our best. The only concern is citizen safety."
Mayor Park also self-assessed, "Only South Korea and Seoul City have managed to maintain a democratic system and urban functions while managing stably. Therefore, the number of confirmed cases has been minimized, and there have been no deaths yet (in Seoul)."
Meanwhile, starting from this day, Seoul City installed a walk-through screening clinic at Jamsil Sports Complex, requiring all arrivals to pass through here before returning home, regardless of symptoms.
In response, residents of Songpa-gu, concerned about local infections, have posted on the Blue House's public petition board, expressing opposition. Bae Hyun-jin, the United Future Party candidate for Songpa-eul, demanded withdrawal, calling it "wartime administration," and Choi Jae-sung, the Democratic Party candidate, also posted on his Facebook, stating "Jamsil walk-through is not acceptable."
