Secured 223 Million KRW in National Funding for Pilot Indoor Address System Project at Jamsil Station Complex... Utilized for Accurate Navigation Services and New Industry Creation Based on Address Information
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is introducing an indoor address system for the underground space of the Jamsil Station complex facility.
Recently, both domestically and internationally, there has been a rapid increase in complex facilities where various activities such as shopping, movie watching, and dining can be done in one place. In Korea, representative examples include the area around Jamsil Station built in the station district downtown, COEX Mall in Samseong-dong, Technomart at Sindorim Station, and I'Park Mall at Yongsan Station.
However, most complex facilities are large in scale and often have complicated routes when moving to destinations, and the variety of guide signs has caused inconvenience for users trying to find specific locations.
In particular, in the case of Jamsil Station, the road name address is assigned as ‘Olympic-ro Underground 265,’ but many stores located along the underground transfer passage do not meet the legal address assignment criteria, so management numbers are used as arbitrary addresses.
As a result, addresses cannot be searched on internet maps, limiting promotion and other activities.
Accordingly, the district is responding to the increase in high-density and complex facilities by expanding the road name address system indoors and establishing an ‘indoor address system.’
The target area is approximately 44,761㎡ including Jamsil Station, underground shopping malls and facilities, and the BRT area. Over nine months until December this year, spatial information of the complex facility will be constructed, and an address assignment system will be prepared considering pedestrian routes for users.
Additionally, based on the new address information, guidance facilities will be developed, and a three-dimensional positioning system usable in underground spaces, which are GPS blind spots, will be established concurrently. Using these, a model linking address information and industry will be created to provide indoor route information services and mobile location guidance services necessary for transportation-vulnerable groups such as the disabled and the elderly.
The district was selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s pilot project ‘Address System Advancement and Address-Based New Industry Creation Support,’ securing a special grant of 223 million KRW for project promotion expenses, investing 50 million KRW of district funds, and plans to proceed with the pilot project with a total of 273 million KRW.
The results of this pilot project will be used as a standard for revising related laws and nationwide expansion, and will be utilized to provide accurate navigation services and create new industries based on address information.
Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “Jamsil Station is a representative location with a floating population reaching 164,000 people annually,” adding, “Through the establishment of this indoor address system, it is expected to greatly help not only the convenience of users moving around the Jamsil Station area but also the economic activities of small business owners in nearby stores.”
