[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Shin-won] A promotional banner of a candidate from the Uri Party running in the Jeju region for the 21st general election has sparked controversy for containing a phrase that disparages President Moon Jae-in.
According to the Jeju Provincial Party of the Democratic Party of Korea on the 2nd, Moon Dae-tan, the Uri Party candidate for Jeju-si Gap electoral district, hung a banner with the phrase "If you vote for Moon Dae-tan, Moon Jae-in is finished." The banner was installed in 18 locations within the Jeju-si Gap district.
In response, the Jeju Provincial Party of the Democratic Party criticized in a statement, "Candidate Moon has posted a low-quality banner containing a phrase that disparages President Moon, angering the residents," and added, "Although he claims to have run to be chosen by the people, he shamelessly commits acts that insult the president elected by the people."
Additionally, the Jeju Provincial Party of the Democratic Party has submitted an objection to the Jeju Election Commission and requested the removal of the banner.
