Yeonggwang-gun, Launches Temporary Childcare Support Project Amid COVID-19 Impact

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeon Seong] Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Jun-seong) announced on the 3rd that it will promote the ‘Temporary Childcare Support Project’ worth 1.03 billion KRW for households raising children who are experiencing economic difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The support target is children under the age of 7 who received child allowance as of last month, and 400,000 KRW worth of points per child will be paid in a lump sum on the 13th, with about 2,580 children expected to benefit.

The county initially planned to implement the project using the Yeonggwang Sarang Card, but changed the support method to electronic vouchers by providing care points on government support cards such as the Ihaengbok Card and the Gukmin Haengbok Card for faster support and prevention of infectious disease spread.

Also, the project will be conducted non-face-to-face so that points can be automatically paid through text message guidance without the need for a separate application.

Households without cards can apply for a separate gift card by visiting Bokjiro or the town and township offices starting from the 6th.

The points provided can only be used within Jeollanam-do to revitalize the local economy, and usage is restricted at some stores such as large supermarkets, department stores, online shopping malls, and entertainment establishments. The usage period is until the end of this year.

A county official said, “Text messages guiding the application procedure will be sent to the recipients,” and added, “We hope this project will help alleviate the economic burden of households raising children and revitalize the local economy.”
