Asia Park to Connect Jamsil Sports Complex and Sincheon Matgol for Revitalization

Seoul to Launch Master Plan Project for Asia Park Area
Revitalizing Aging Asia Park as an Open Space for MICE Visitors and a Leisure Area for Residents

Asia Park to Connect Jamsil Sports Complex and Sincheon Matgol for Revitalization

[Asia Economy, Reporter Kim Yuri] The Seoul Metropolitan Government is launching a project to establish a master plan for the maintenance of the Asia Park area. The goal is to extend and spread the development momentum of Jamsil Sports Complex, which is being revitalized as part of the Seoul International District (SID) initiative, to surrounding areas such as Sincheon Matgol.

The Asia Park area-including Asia Park, the Asia Underground Passage, and Olympic-ro-is a key space for spatial connectivity between Jamsil Sports Complex and adjacent areas like Sincheon Matgol. It is also a space that requires integrated spatial utilization to respond to the anticipated large-scale development changes at Jamsil Sports Complex in the future.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to create a sunken plaza connected to subway lines 2 and 9 near Jamsil Sports Complex and to reorganize the road plan for Olympic-ro around Asia Park. The city will also work to improve the environment of the Asia Underground Passage. Through these efforts, the city aims to promote pedestrian activity from Jamsil Sports Complex to Asia Park and Sincheon Matgol, and to encourage the activation of streets spatially integrated with Jamsil Sports Complex.

Renovation of Asia Park itself, which was created for the 1986 Asian Games and whose facilities have since become outdated, will also be pursued. The front area of the park will be developed as an open cultural event space for visitors and tourists to Jamsil Sports Complex and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) facilities, while the rear area will be renovated as a natural leisure space, taking into account the residential environment of local residents.

Companies wishing to participate in the project must submit proposals and required documents to the Southeastern Region Project Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government by 5:00 p.m. on the 24th. The contractor will be selected through a review by a proposal evaluation committee composed of experts. For more details, visit the Seoul Metropolitan Government website or the National Procurement Service, or contact the Southeastern Region Project Division at Seoul City Hall.

Kim Sunsoon, Head of Regional Development at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "Through spatial integration and the revitalization of connectivity between Jamsil Sports Complex and surrounding areas, we will respond to the changes brought by the development of Jamsil Sports Complex and inject new vitality into local commercial districts."
