[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jang Seok-woong, Superintendent of Education of Jeonnam, strongly condemned Japan's excessive 'Dokdo historical distortion textbooks' on the 2nd and urged an apology.

Superintendent Jang pointed out, "The Japanese government's intention to revive imperialist invasion acts through textbooks is a low-level act that goes against world peace." The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology approved social studies textbooks containing claims of sovereignty over Dokdo.

The approved textbooks include a total of 17 types across three subjects: ▲History ▲Civics ▲Geography. Among them, historical distortions claiming 'South Korea's illegal occupation of Dokdo' were found in 14 types, accounting for 82% of all social studies textbooks.

Superintendent Jang said, "During the remote learning period, we will actively utilize the Dokdo teaching and learning materials (video content and course plans) distributed last year, and once COVID-19 is overcome and school classes normalize, we will immediately set up a 'Dokdo Education Week' to strengthen history education so that our students can have a sense of identity as citizens of the Republic of Korea."
