"Only 'Political Parties That Nominated Proportional Representation Candidates' Are Allowed Under the Public Official Election Act"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 2nd, the Minsaeng Party stated, "It is illegal for the Democratic Party of Korea and the United Future Party to run party advertisements," adding, "According to the Public Official Election Act, newspaper, broadcast, and internet advertisements for elections can only be made by parties that have nominated proportional representation candidates."
Lee Yeon-gi, spokesperson for the Minsaeng Party's election countermeasures committee, said in a commentary on the same day, "It is pathetic that the ruling party and the main opposition party, which even created satellite parties to gain more seats by exploiting loopholes in the law," made such moves.
The spokesperson said, "By now, the leadership of the two parties might be engaged in a blame game with the planners who proposed that satellite parties were inevitable," adding, "It is hard to imagine holding an election when parties cannot run strategic advertisements covering all candidates."
He added, "It is quite imaginable that the publicity managers of the two parties are struggling to bypass the legal surveillance network, and the Election Commission should more thoroughly monitor their evasive and illegal activities."
