Gangbuk-gu Hosts Online '4·19 Revolution National Cultural Festival'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is holding the ‘4·19 Revolution Online National Cultural Festival’ until the 19th.

The district has held the National Cultural Festival since 2013, but this year, due to the spread of COVID-19, it prepared an online cultural festival as an alternative. The purpose is to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 4·19 Revolution and to wisely overcome the infectious disease with the cheers and passion of April when the entire nation became one. To this end, the district plans to attract netizens’ participation by organizing programs tailored to the younger generation’s perspective, such as delivering nationwide support messages and certification shot events.

First, they are producing a ‘4·19 Revolution History Textbook to See with the Eyes.’ The textbook contains explanations about the development process of the revolution and the National 4·19 Democratic Cemetery, where the spirits of democratic pioneers rest. The district plans to involve history experts or famous figures with significant social influence in the production to attract many people’s attention. After the event, the video will be posted on video sharing platforms and also provided as educational videos to schools in the region.

A ‘Hope Message Relay’ to celebrate the 60th anniversary and overcome the infectious disease together will also be held. Among those who deliver support messages, 838 people will be selected by lottery to receive coffee exchange coupons worth 4,000 won.

Additionally, ‘Making a Thought Net’ and ‘Online Drawing’ programs that convey personal feelings will be conducted. These programs were planned to widely promote the spirit of the 4·19 Revolution, which became the cornerstone of democracy in the Republic of Korea, to students who have more time at home due to school reopening delays. Elementary and middle school students nationwide are eligible to participate, with the themes being the 4·19 Revolution and democracy. Among participants, 150 who join the net-making and 300 who join the drawing will each receive book and ice cream gift certificates worth 10,000 won.

The ‘National 4·19 Democratic Cemetery Visit Certification Shot Event’ will also continue. The district plans to give snack gift certificates worth 10,000 won by lottery to 300 people who submit certification photos.

Gangbuk-gu Mayor Park Kyum-soo said, “Although it is an online participation program, you will face the pioneers who passionately burned for democratization in 1960,” and added, “I hope the spirit of the 4·19 Revolution naturally settles in the hearts of the people and becomes a light of hope that helps overcome any difficulties.”
