[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Korea GM set a sales record by selling 8,965 units in the domestic market in March this year, a 39.6% increase compared to the same period last year.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer, which began full-scale customer deliveries from February, sold 3,187 units in March alone, becoming the best-selling model and leading Chevrolet's overall March performance.
The Trailblazer has gained explosive popularity among women, young consumers in their 20s and 30s, as well as various age groups, thanks to its stylish design, excellent performance, and the only premium options in its class. The Chevrolet Spark also recorded solid performance with 2,551 units sold, a 20.6% increase compared to the previous month.
The Chevrolet Traverse sold 532 units, a 121.7% increase from the previous month, marking the highest monthly sales volume ever. The Traverse stands out in the large SUV market with the most overwhelming body size among all sports utility vehicles (SUVs) sold domestically and top-class power performance in its class.
Last month, domestic sales of Chevrolet recreational vehicles (RVs) more than tripled compared to the same period last year, driven by strong sales of the Trailblazer and Traverse. Additionally, Chevrolet's imported sales models, including the Bolt EV, Traverse, Colorado, Equinox, and Camaro SS, recorded sales of over 1,000 units for six consecutive months.
Cesar Toledo, Vice President of Sales and Service at Korea GM, said, "Chevrolet has further strengthened its brand image by successfully launching the Trailblazer in the domestic market following the Traverse and Colorado last year. With strong interest and support from domestic consumers for these products, Chevrolet will continue its upward trend by diversifying its lineup to expand customer choices and prioritizing customers through marketing activities."
Meanwhile, Korea GM's exports in March totaled 28,953 units, a 20.8% decrease compared to the same period last year. While exports of mid-to-large passenger cars increased by more than 200% year-on-year, exports of compact passenger cars and RVs showed a declining trend.
