[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] More than 120 countries have requested support from South Korea in the form of medical supplies exports, and it has been confirmed that 55 countries have requested humanitarian aid. The government plans to provide humanitarian aid to 14 countries, including 5 in Asia, 3 in Latin America, and 6 in Africa and the Middle East.

On the 1st, a senior official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told reporters, “Excluding the countries that requested exports, 14 countries have requested humanitarian aid,” adding, “We plan to support these countries with items such as diagnostic kits, considering the scale of damage and healthcare capacity comprehensively.” Medical and quarantine supplies worth a total of 6 million USD will be provided.

The government has planned humanitarian aid worth 2 million USD for Iran, which has the highest number of confirmed cases among Middle Eastern countries. The senior official said, “In addition to diagnostic kits, PCR testing devices and disinfectors were requested. We are reviewing the diagnostic kits,” and added, “We plan to transport two PCR devices and 500 spray-type disinfectors within this week.”

Furthermore, besides the 14 countries that requested humanitarian aid, the government plans to provide additional support to 4 countries in the form of small-scale Official Development Assistance (ODA). The senior official explained, “We plan to support about 1 million USD worth of quarantine supplies,” and added, “This will be carried out sequentially within the scope that does not affect domestic supply and demand.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also plans to provide additional support if the budget allows.
