Seodaemun-gu Mayor Mun Seok-jin's Proposal for 'Tablet PC Support' Receives Response from Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and Seoul City On the morning of the 1st, an emergency issue meeting of the Seoul Metropolitan District Mayors' Council was held in the conference room on the 8th floor of Seoul City Hall.


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, achieved a result that led to support from the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education and the Seoul Metropolitan Government for his proposal of “providing tablet PCs and laptops to students eligible for educational welfare” to ensure that all students can smoothly participate in online classes, which he suggested at the emergency agenda meeting of the Seoul Mayors' Association on the 30th of last month.


On the morning of the 1st, the Seoul Mayors' Association held an emergency meeting at the 8th-floor conference room of Seoul City Hall, attended by mayors of 18 autonomous districts, Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, and Cho In-dong, Director of Planning and Coordination Office of Seoul Metropolitan Government.


At the meeting, it was tentatively decided that to bridge the gap in online education, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and autonomous districts will share the budget for smart devices in a 4:4:2 ratio, and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will bear the cost of establishing wireless internet communication infrastructure within schools.


On that day, Mayor Moon Seok-jin repeatedly emphasized, “Since there is little time left until the online school opening, local governments, the Office of Education, and education support offices must communicate smoothly and provide support as quickly as possible.”
