[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] A public official in his 50s from a local government in Incheon was referred to a disciplinary committee after posting a pornographic video in a KakaoTalk group chat created to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the 1st, Seo-gu District Office in Incheon requested disciplinary action against the head of A-dong for posting obscene material in the Incheon city group chat. The head of A-dong was investigated by the Seo-gu audit office after it was revealed that he posted a pornographic video in the group chat "COVID-19 Response Trend Communication Room," which Seo-gu created to respond to the COVID-19 situation in real time on the 19th of last month. At that time, about 140 public officials belonging to Seo-gu were participating in the chat room.
The head of A-dong uploaded the pornographic video file and deleted it about two minutes later, but it is known that dozens of participants in the chat room viewed the video.
During the investigation, the head of A-dong explained, "I received the video from a senior colleague, mistakenly thought it was a COVID-19 quarantine activity video, and posted it by accident before deleting it."
Incheon City is expected to hold a separate disciplinary committee to determine the level of discipline in response to Seo-gu's disciplinary request.
A Seo-gu audit office official explained, "To be sure, we checked whether the video posted by the head of A-dong was child sexual exploitation material, but it was confirmed that it was not," adding, "We concluded that the head of A-dong violated the duty to maintain dignity as a public official and therefore requested disciplinary action."
