[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics announced on the 1st that they received the highest award, the 'Sustainability Excellence Award,' at the '2020 ENERGY STAR Award' hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The ENERGY STAR Award is given by the U.S. government to approximately 20,000 companies and organizations in the environmental and energy sectors, evaluating their use of ENERGY STAR certification, external promotion, and excellence in marketing activities.
Samsung Electronics was recognized for expanding the ENERGY STAR 'Most Efficient' rating, which is awarded to products with the highest energy-saving effects among ENERGY STAR certified models. Last year, 33 models received the Most Efficient rating.
Samsung Electronics is also actively working to publicly emphasize the importance of highly energy-efficient products.
LG Electronics also announced that it received the highest award, the Sustainability Excellence Award, due to the expansion of ENERGY STAR certified products and the implementation of energy-saving campaigns.
Last year, more than 80% of LG Electronics' product models received ENERGY STAR certification, and the scale of ENERGY STAR certified products sold by LG Electronics in the North American market last year exceeded 2 billion dollars (approximately 2.4 trillion won).
