[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] On the 1st, Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, spoke about the role of Assemblyman Yoo Seung-min in the April 15 general election, calling him a "valuable resource of the free right-wing" and stating, "I believe he should play a significant role in saving the Republic of Korea and judging the Moon Jae-in administration."
On the same day, Hwang attended a discussion hosted by the Broadcast Journalists Club held at the Broadcasting Hall in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, where he made these remarks.
He emphasized, "The integration happened because there was an agreement (with Assemblyman Yoo). There were two phone calls initially, and there was an agreement to work towards integration going forward. Although there were some differences in opinion, ultimately a major integration was achieved."
Hwang said, "I called Representative Yoo Seung-min several times right after the integration. I even called him the day before yesterday," adding, "Perhaps because Representative Yoo has been visiting sites nationwide, it has been difficult to get through." However, he added, "That does not mean there is a conflict. When both are busy traveling around, it is natural that phone connections are not always easy."
Regarding Assemblyman Yoo's future role within the party, he said, "Any difficulties in communication can be overcome without much trouble. He is someone who must play a major role in judging the Moon administration," and emphasized, "We will work hard to unite our strength to save the country, improve people's livelihoods, and prepare a free right-wing that can face the future."
Regarding the controversy over his Facebook post stating that "there is almost no COVID-19 in churches," Hwang explained, "My intention was that it is inappropriate to generalize the problems of some churches to all churches." He added, "Religious communities are also making efforts for public health, and I spoke hoping that no misunderstandings or disparagement would arise," concluding with, "Please do not misunderstand me further."
