Providing Processed Data Collected from Kia Connected Cars
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 1st that it will launch Kia Motors' vehicle data open platform, 'KIA Developers.' Following the operation of Hyundai's vehicle data open platform, 'Hyundai Developers,' since October last year, the group plans to lead the future connected car market by launching KIA Developers this time.
KIA Developers is a platform that processes data collected from Kia connected cars, such as driving and specification information, mileage, and driving habits, into API (Application Programming Interface) format and provides it to individuals and corporate businesses. Businesses wishing to develop connected car products and services can register on the KIA Developers website, submit the intended use and purpose of the data, and upon approval, use the API.
Partner companies can easily create various innovative services and products linked to vehicles, and Kia customers benefit from more advanced connected car services and products. In particular, Kia customers can use partner services without a separate registration process by simply linking their Kia integrated account.
To activate the platform in its early stages, KIA Developers plans to sequentially provide connected car services from four partner companies. Specifically, ▲ Carrot General Insurance offers a postpaid car insurance product where monthly premiums are calculated based on the vehicle's accumulated mileage data ▲ Last Thirty Minutes provides 'Itcha,' a service that, when a customer sets a destination, automatically sends the destination information to the vehicle's navigation system and assigns a driver to park the car according to the arrival time and place ▲ Happy Technology offers 'InstaWash,' a contactless on-site car wash service with remote door unlocking at the customer's desired time and location ▲ OilNow recommends optimal gas stations and analyzes refueling patterns using vehicle accumulated mileage and remaining fuel data.
The launch of KIA Developers is part of Kia's mid-to-long-term strategy 'Plan S,' announced in January this year to respond to the future automotive industry. Kia expects that as KIA Developers becomes more active, vehicle-related service providers will grow through free data usage, and customers will accumulate connected car service experiences.
Yoon Kyung-rim, Vice President of Hyundai-Kia Open Innovation Division, said, "Customers will be able to enjoy diverse and convenient connected car products and services," adding, "We expect KIA Developers to play a significant role in creating a connected car ecosystem, one of the future mobility businesses."
