[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Sim Sang-jung, leader of the Justice Party, predicted on the 1st, "I believe the support for the United Future Party has started to decline," and added, "Support for the Future Korea Party will also decrease."
On the same day, Sim appeared on TBS Radio's 'Kim Eo-jun's News Factory' and said, "Since the Democratic Party of Korea now has more sister parties, I believe the variable of the Future Korea Party has disappeared."
He said, "I hope people will pay attention to the role the Justice Party should play in the 21st National Assembly," adding, "The mixed-member proportional representation system was meant to move towards politics representing diversity and various lives. What remains now is whether to choose a two-party system or a pluralistic party system. I ask for support so that the Justice Party can unite strength to protect citizens' lives and democracy against the increasingly polarized two-party politics."
Regarding the recent decline in the Justice Party's approval ratings, Sim said, "Last week, we saw the lowest ratings ever, but from this week, there have been many polls showing over 10%, which is encouraging," while also noting, "It is still very difficult."
He continued, "It seems that not participating in the proportional coalition party and controversies over proportional representation candidates have had an effect," and added, "As the two-party frame strengthens, support for minor parties is also significantly decreasing."
He then said, "The Justice Party has never had an easy victory," and stated, "(The Justice Party) is the last bastion of reform in South Korea. I believe people will recognize that the Justice Party gaining strength is necessary for future political changes and for our democracy."
