-Global Food Company Supply Contract Opens Path for Technology Commercialization in the Global Food Market
SR Technopack, a packaging material manufacturing specialist company (CEO Cho Hong-ro), announced on the 1st that its oxygen barrier coating technology ‘GB-8’ has been applied to two RTD cup coffee products, 'Nescafe Caramel Macchiato' and 'Nescafe Smooth Cappuccino,' from Nestl? Malaysia.
SR Technopack formed a tripartite partnership with Seoul F&B, an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for Nestl? Malaysia, and exports the products by attaching its oxygen barrier coating film ‘GB-8’ to Seoul F&B’s beverages during filling.
The products were first introduced at 7-Eleven stores in Malaysia starting in March, with sales channels expected to gradually expand throughout April. This tripartite collaboration has opened the door for SR Technopack’s technology to be globally commercialized.
The reason Nestl? chose SR Technopack’s oxygen barrier coating film is to minimize environmental pollution impact as a global food company and to realize the value of coexistence in line with the eco-friendly measures announced by the Malaysian government. At the end of last year, the Malaysian government declared a war on plastics, including banning imports of plastic waste and other types of plastics.
Nestl? is also heavily investing to drastically reduce plastic packaging and replace all packaging materials with 100% recyclable or reusable materials by 2025. By applying SR Technopack’s technology to the labels and lids of RTD cup coffee, plastic cups that were previously classified as ‘Other’ and discarded as waste are expected to be classified as ‘Recyclable (PP),’ thereby reducing plastic waste.
Materials used in conventional food packaging have excellent preservation effects but are difficult to recycle. ‘GB-8’ is an oxygen barrier coating film developed independently by SR Technopack to solve these environmental issues. Applied to cup coffee and analyzed after decomposition into recycled pellets, it was verified to be recyclable with the same components as plastic. Based on this, it can be applied not only to in-mold cups but also to various food packaging materials such as ramen bags and snack bags, providing long-term waste reduction effects.
A marketing representative from Nestl? Malaysia stated, “We expect to achieve our goal of making all packaging recyclable through this collaboration with SR Technopack.”
