[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] LIG Nex1 has completed the development of a port surveillance system and has begun full-scale installation at major domestic ports.
According to the military on the 1st, the port surveillance system, which effectively identifies underwater objects approaching the port, was developed by LIG Nex1 and the Agency for Defense Development (ADD). The port surveillance system is installed at major ports with heavy ship traffic and can detect submarines and swimmers approaching underwater at an early stage.
Recently, as submarine noise has decreased and maritime traffic has increased, monitoring and responding to underwater moving objects has become more difficult. Accordingly, the new surveillance system significantly reflects improvements identified through the operation of existing systems and the operational experience and opinions of the Navy in its design. By domesticating key detection sensors, detection performance and operational efficiency have improved compared to existing systems, and military logistics support has become more convenient.
Additionally, the underwater acoustic sensors apply the latest technology to detect the low noise of submarines. They can also detect and analyze the magnetic properties and noise generated by the hull in a combined manner. Depending on the marine environmental characteristics of the installation port, underwater sensors and electro-optical equipment can be combined in various ways for installation, enabling more efficient operation than before. Detected target information is linked and shared in real time with the Navy’s main command and communication and surveillance systems, such as the naval tactical C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence) system and maritime surveillance radar.
A military official said, "This is a result that proves the excellence of domestic technology by domesticating core components," adding, "It will enhance the military’s surveillance capability of underwater moving objects and will also be exportable."
