Full-Scale Promotion of Linked Development for Cheonho-dong Gangdong-gu Community Center and Homeplus Site

Gangdong-gu and Meridian DNI Sign Business Agreement for Smooth Project... Expected to Serve as a Catalyst for Public-Private Cooperation Model Project and Gubeundari Station Area Revitalization

Full-Scale Promotion of Linked Development for Cheonho-dong Gangdong-gu Community Center and Homeplus Site

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) signed a business agreement with Meridian D&I Co., Ltd. on March 31 to actively promote the ‘Gangdong-gu Community Center - Homeplus Site Linked Development’ project.

This agreement aims to establish a collaborative system between Gangdong-gu and Meridian to develop the Gangdong-gu Community Center and Homeplus site as a hub for fostering core functions along Yangjae-daero and revitalizing the Gubeundari Station area.

The signing ceremony was attended by Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, and Kim Hee-jun, CEO of Meridian, among others. They agreed to share roles for project promotion and prepare public contribution plans through linked development, committing to mutual cooperation on overall matters.

Built in 1988, the Gangdong-gu Community Center is located in the Gubeundari Station area, a densely populated residential district with high demand for public services such as culture, sports, and arts. However, the building has become outdated and cramped, leading to many resident requests for facility expansion and improvement.

Accordingly, Gangdong-gu plans to purchase the community center site, which is a vacant lot, from the Seoul Metropolitan Government and redevelop it into a complex building with three underground floors and six above-ground floors.

In particular, Cheonho-dong, where the community center is located, has poor infrastructure relative to its population. The plan is to build a multi-functional cultural and sports facility with indoor swimming pools, community spaces for local residents, and youth programs.

Additionally, the district plans to reduce the financial burden of public facility construction through public-private cooperative linked development with the adjacent Homeplus site, maximizing development effects by designing the complex and efficient upper and lower spaces connecting Gubeundari Station, Homeplus, and the community center.

Furthermore, the district intends to promote the revitalization of the Yangjae-daero corridor station area by inducing sequential development in the surrounding areas.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, “The linked development of Gangdong-gu Community Center and Homeplus will dramatically expand the district’s insufficient cultural and sports facilities and become a pioneering model of public-private cooperation in station area urban regeneration. It is expected to become a landmark in the Yangjae-daero area and act as a catalyst for revitalizing the Gubeundari Station area.”
