Gyeongsang National University Extends 'Non-Face-to-Face Remote Classes' Until the 26th of This Month

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Woo-kwon] Gyeongsang National University (GNU, President Lee Sang-kyung) has decided to extend the 'non-face-to-face remote classes' for an additional three weeks until the 26th of this month in response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Gyeongsang National University has been conducting non-face-to-face remote classes for three weeks since the semester began on the 16th of last month by adjusting the academic schedule to protect students' health and safety from COVID-19. On the 31st, the day before, the university held an emergency academic affairs meeting again and decided to extend the remote classes.

The university explained, "Due to the recent increase in overseas entrants, confirmed cases in the country are rising, and the risk of community infection remains. In particular, in the Jinju area, three confirmed cases have occurred consecutively after about 40 days since February 21, so it was judged that students cannot attend classes normally."

Gyeongsang National University emphasized that during the extended period of non-face-to-face remote classes, 'real-time video lectures (Zoom)' will be encouraged to alleviate professors' inconvenience in producing videos and to conduct interactive learning with students.

Also, as the academic schedule will be further adjusted, issues such as whether to hold midterm exams, the method of conducting them, and problems with practical subjects will be promptly discussed and announced by a special task force to minimize confusion.

The school added, "If the situation improves or stabilizes, face-to-face lectures may start after notifying one week in advance."
