[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is conducting a regular survey of designated cultural properties such as monuments.
The Gyeonggi Cultural Heritage Research Institute announced on the 1st that it will conduct a regular survey on the general status, location status, and management status of provincial designated cultural properties such as monuments and cultural heritage materials.
The Gyeonggi Province designated cultural property system is a system that designates and protects targets with "historical, artistic, academic, or scenic value" among cultural properties in the province as monuments, tangible and intangible cultural properties, and cultural heritage materials.
In 2015, the province conducted the first regular survey in Korea through a specialized institution, the Gyeonggi Cultural Heritage Research Institute. This survey includes cultural properties additionally designated and changes since then.
The survey targets a total of 201 items, including 183 monuments and 18 cultural heritage materials located in 31 cities and counties in the province.
The survey contents include ▲historical data of cultural properties such as literature and photographic materials ▲survey contents at the time of designation ▲excavation surveys ▲repair and maintenance status ▲preservation and management status ▲milestones ▲signage and other guidance facilities ▲surrounding environment maintenance status ▲internet map and navigation guidance status, etc.
The field survey will be conducted from March to July with related experts forming an inspection committee. It will include a comprehensive investigation of preservation and management status and changes, aging, damage, disaster prevention facilities, and a review of the appropriateness of cultural properties and protected areas.
The survey results will be notified to cities and counties to be used for establishing cultural property protection and management plans, determining repair and maintenance priorities, and improving issues related to cultural property fire and safety management.
In addition, in the mid to long term, the accumulation of regular survey results will be used to establish a preventive management system and serve as basic data for mid- to long-term planning.
A provincial official explained, "Through regular surveys, it is expected that the value of Gyeonggi Province's cultural properties will be preserved and passed on, thereby establishing the region's historical and cultural identity and enhancing the pride of Gyeonggi residents."
