Woods vs Mickelson 'Winner-Takes-All Match'... "Will NFL Stars Tie 2-2 This Year?"

Woods vs Mickelson 'Winner-Takes-All Match'... "Will NFL Stars Tie 2-2 This Year?" Phil Mickelson is cheering after winning $9 million immediately following his victory at the 2018 "Capital One The Match: Tiger vs. Phil."

[Asia Economy Kim Hyun-jun, Golf Specialist Reporter] "NFL star joins the fray."

The "resurrected golf emperor" Tiger Woods and the "veteran" Phil Mickelson (both from the United States) are set to clash in the "match of the century," with a 2-on-2 match proposal including top American professional sports NFL stars emerging. On the 31st (Korean time), NBC in the U.S. reported, "Famous writer Robert Lustig claimed that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning could also join Woods and Mickelson." Brady and Manning are the most famous quarterbacks in the NFL.

Both players' golf skills notably surpass those of ordinary amateur golfers. It is said to be a perfect combination to boost viewership ratings. In the golf world, with the global professional golf tours completely suspended due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, such a special event is seen as an excellent opportunity for sports broadcast content. However, it is still in the planning stage, so its realization remains uncertain.

Woods and Mickelson played a 1-on-1 match play titled "Capital One's The Match: Tiger vs. Phil" in November 2018 at Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nevada, where Mickelson won the $9 million (1.1 billion KRW) prize by sinking a 1.2-meter birdie on the fourth hole of sudden death. Originally planned to be held over three years until this year, the event was canceled last year and is currently being pursued this year.
