[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Gwangyang City Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Head Jung Hyun-bok) announced on the 31st that it will provide rice to households with preschool children in the region.

The support target is children born after January 1, 2014, and a total of about 8,200 children will receive one 10kg bag of white rice each.

Children enrolled in daycare centers and private kindergartens will receive the rice through their facilities, while children attending public kindergartens, facilities outside the area, and those under home care will receive rice directly at designated locations in their residential areas.

The distribution locations by eup, myeon, and dong are Gwangyang-eup - Gwangyang-eup Hope Library, Jungma-dong - Youth Culture Center Gymnasium, Geumho-dong - Geumho-dong Residents' Autonomy Center, and other areas - the respective myeon/dong offices. Guardians can pick up the rice in person from the afternoon of March 30 to April 1, for three days.

In addition, the Gwangyang City Daycare Center Association is actively participating in overcoming COVID-19 by delivering side dishes and supplementary food that children like, along with messages of encouragement for parents, to each daycare center.

Daycare centers are conducting various activities to support home care, including providing emergency childcare and play activity kits, sharing play videos, and delivering love lunchboxes by courier.

Jung Hyun-bok, head of the Gwangyang City Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, said, “All citizens are going through difficult daily lives due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation,” and urged, “Please thoroughly practice social distancing and personal hygiene management for the speedy end of the situation.”
