Delay in Release of 'Mobius' and 'Ghostbusters: Rise' Due to COVID-19 Spread
'Mulan', 'Black Widow', and 'Fast & Furious: The Ultimate' Postponed Early
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jong-gil] It seems difficult to watch Hollywood blockbusters in theaters this year. Major American distributors are postponing the release of tentpole films (commercial movies with famous directors and actors, and huge capital investment that guarantee box office success) one after another due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
According to foreign media on the 30th, Sony Pictures postponed the release of major works such as "Morbius" and "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" to next year. In North America, "Morbius" was postponed from July 31 this year to March 19 next year, and "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" was postponed from July 10 this year to March 5 next year. "Morbius" depicts the battle between Spider-Man and the villain Dr. Michael Morbius. Jared Leto and Adria Arjona star in the film. "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" is a sequel to "Ghostbusters 2" (1989). Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Bill Murray appear in the movie.
The animation "Peter Rabbit 2," which was scheduled to be released on August 7, has also been rescheduled to January 15 next year. "Uncharted," starring Tom Holland and based on the PlayStation game, also changed its release date from March 5 next year to October 8 next year. This film's production was halted due to the COVID-19 situation.
Earlier, Walt Disney temporarily postponed the release of "Mulan" and "Black Widow." The highly anticipated sequels "Fast & Furious: The Ultimate" and "No Time to Die" also changed their screening schedules to April next year and November this year, respectively.
