[Asia Economy (Naepo) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province announced on the 31st that it will invest a budget of 48.3 billion KRW in seven renewable energy projects this year.
This is an increase of 11.9 billion KRW compared to last year, and through these projects, the province expects to distribute renewable energy such as solar power (16,161 kW), solar thermal (2,346㎡), and geothermal (7,927 kW) to 5,135 locations including general households.
In particular, this year the province plans to focus on the "expansion of resident-participatory renewable energy distribution."
The main projects include installing two or more types of renewable energy in 2,812 households in cooperation with the Korea Energy Agency (33.1 billion KRW), installing solar power in 1,835 private houses (9.2 billion KRW), installing solar power in 123 vulnerable households, public facilities, and social welfare facilities (2 billion KRW), installing solar thermal facilities in 32 village halls (1.2 billion KRW), and installing solar power in 20 small business buildings such as self-employed stores (700 million KRW).
Additionally, through its own projects, the province plans to install solar power in 309 local senior centers (1.5 billion KRW) and run the "Resident-led Energy Self-sufficient Village Creation Project" (supporting 4 villages with 600 million KRW), which installs renewable energy facilities such as solar power led by village communities.
Earlier, the province was selected for the "2020 Renewable Energy Distribution Support Public Contest Project" hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, securing 16 billion KRW in national funds.
A provincial official stated, "The province plans to continuously expand the distribution of renewable energy in line with reducing residents' energy consumption costs and the government's nuclear phase-out and coal phase-out energy policies," and added, "We ask for the local community's participation in renewable energy distribution projects."
