Seodaemun-gu Provides Tablet PCs to All Students Eligible for Educational Welfare Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu (left), and Yoo Jae-jun, Superintendent of Seoul Western Education Support Office, signed an agreement to support the 'Seoul-style Online School Opening.'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) is the first local government in the country to urgently provide tablet PCs to about 2,500 students eligible for educational welfare attending elementary, middle, and high schools in the area.

The district decided to provide this support to ensure that the 'Seoul-type online classroom' runs more smoothly amid the delayed school opening, and to prevent any students from being left out even if remote classes are conducted at each school due to confirmed cases after the school opens.

The tablet PCs will be purchased in bulk by the Seoul Western Education Support Office and distributed to each school, which will then lend them to the eligible students throughout their enrollment period.

Additionally, the district will support the establishment of wireless internet networks in 40 schools in the area. The budget of about 2.65 billion KRW, covering the purchase of tablet PCs (1.25 billion KRW) and the construction of wireless internet networks (1.4 billion KRW), will be 100% funded by Seodaemun-gu through educational expense subsidies (district funds).

On the afternoon of the 30th, Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, and Yoo Jae-jun, Director of the Seoul Western Education Support Office, met at Seodaemun-gu Office to coordinate detailed support plans and signed an agreement for 'Seoul-type online school opening support.'

Mayor Moon Seok-jin stated, “We are promoting this project to ensure that students from low-income families do not face difficulties in online classes, and we plan to support the necessary equipment for remote learning that each school may pursue in the future.”
