[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Korea Federation of Medium-sized Enterprises (hereinafter referred to as KOFME) is joining efforts to support flower farms struggling due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). KOFME announced on the 31st that Chairman Kang Ho-gap will participate in the relay campaign to support flower farms, whose sales have significantly declined as most events and gatherings such as graduation and entrance ceremonies have been canceled.

The relay campaign to support flower farms was initiated last month by Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon on his Facebook page. Participants purchase flowers as needed and then nominate the next participant. On the 19th of this month, Jeong Gu-yong, Chairman of the Korea Listed Companies Association, nominated Chairman Kang Ho-gap. KOFME plans to continuously promote flower consumption by purchasing flowers for each office meeting room and during internal and external events and celebrations.

Chairman Kang said, "The weapon to confront the fear of the pandemic that is paralyzing the global economy and society is solidarity and cooperation that hold onto hope and protect each other." He added, "I sincerely hope that the precious daily lives of the people, who are enduring the hardships caused by COVID-19 as well as the flower farms, will recover as soon as possible." Chairman Kang nominated Gu Ja-gwan, Chief Representative Partner of Samgu I&C, Kim Hae-ryun, Chairman of Taekyung Group, and Choi Byung-oh, Chairman of Fashion Group Hyungji, as the next participants, adding, "As the backbone of the Korean economy, I believe the entire medium-sized enterprise sector will willingly participate in various ways in the journey to overcome this crisis."
