Yeongdeungpo-gu, Online 'Homeschooling' Service for School Opening Delay

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chaehyun Il) has been providing an online-based service called ‘Taktin Homeschooling’ since March 30th to support students whose studies have been interrupted due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to COVID-19, the start of kindergarten and schools at all levels has been postponed three times, increasing parents' anxiety over the risk of infection for their children.

In response, the district offers educational and creative programs that can be enjoyed at home through ‘Taktin Homeschooling’ to help students prepare for school reopening.

‘Taktin Homeschooling’ consists of ‘Creating a Daily Schedule,’ ‘Essential Daily Content,’ and ‘Exciting Stay-at-Home Content,’ encouraging students’ self-directed learning.

First, students create daily and weekly schedules provided by the district to set time management goals.

In the ‘Essential Daily Content,’ activities such as health exercises, eating healthy homemade meals, and reading for 30 minutes a day help maintain physical and mental health.

Next, the ‘Exciting Stay-at-Home Content’ offers various educational programs including △ Online Learning Site Challenges: guidance on various online learning platforms △ Taktin Self-Study Notes: learning about the local area where one lives △ Guide for Grade 12 Students: watching university entrance exam briefing videos for exam takers.

Additionally, creative content such as △ Small Weekly Success: consistently practicing one goal △ What to Do When Bored? Let’s Create: producing creative works with messages overcoming COVID-19 △ Home Vlog: recording daily life at home on video △ Any Instrument Challenge: completing a song with an instrument provide memorable experiences that are difficult to have during the semester.

The diverse contents of ‘Taktin Homeschooling’ can be accessed through the banner on the main page of the Yeongdeungpo-gu website or by searching.

Chaehyun Il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “With the school reopening delayed due to COVID-19, students may be unsure how to spend their time,” adding, “I hope they use ‘Taktin Homeschooling’ to spend valuable time at home.”
