Gwangju City Selected for Nonprofit Private Organization Public Interest Project

Gwangju City Selected for Nonprofit Private Organization Public Interest Project Gwangju City Hall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 30th the selection of nonprofit private organizations eligible for public interest projects in 2020.

Earlier, from January 20 to February 14, Gwangju conducted a demand survey and held a public contest for public interest projects by nonprofit private organizations in seven categories, with a total of 181 organizations applying. Among them, after deliberation by the Public Interest Project Selection Committee composed of related departments and civilians, a final total of 176 organizations were selected.

The selected organizations can view the support amounts and other details on the Gwangju city website starting today. Applications for subsidies can be submitted from the 31st, and after the 21st National Assembly election day, from April 16, the funds can be received and projects carried out until the end of December.

In this regard, Gwangju had planned to conduct accounting education to ensure project performance and transparent subsidy execution for the selected organizations, but considering COVID-19, related materials will be posted on the website within this month.

Additionally, to guarantee the public nature of the public interest projects through continuous progress monitoring and to support the enhancement of organizational expertise, a non-face-to-face open consultation office will be operated on a regular basis.

Kim Soon-ok, head of the City Autonomy Administration Division, said, “The public interest projects by nonprofit private organizations focus on guaranteeing voluntary activities of organizations, supporting projects that complement and enhance city administration, and strengthening organizational capabilities. This year, due to the postponement of face-to-face education caused by COVID-19, we will strengthen transparency in subsidy support for public interest projects and operate non-face-to-face consultation offices that meet the needs of organizations.”
