[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Placido Domingo (79), a Spanish-born opera singer who tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), has been hospitalized in a hospital in Mexico due to complications, CNN reported on the 30th (local time).

According to the report, Domingo's side stated in a press release that he was admitted to a hospital in Acapulco, a southern port city in Mexico, and "he is receiving good treatment and showing positive effects."

Earlier, Domingo announced on Facebook on the 22nd that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He said, "I felt it was my moral duty to say that I tested positive," and added, "My family and I will self-isolate until medically necessary." He also mentioned that both he and his family are in good health.

Domingo was embroiled in a 'Me Too' controversy last August, accused of decades of sexually inappropriate behavior toward fellow singers and others. Following the sexual harassment allegations, he resigned in October of the same year from his position as artistic director of the Los Angeles (LA) Opera, a post he had held for 21 years. At the end of last month, Domingo apologized for the sexual harassment allegations, saying, "I am sorry to the women who were hurt," but he reversed his apology two days later, causing further controversy.
