Planted 10 Million Trees by 2022... Resident-Friendly Healing Urban Forest
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Yongchul] As global warming causes frequent climate changes, tree planting is emerging as one alternative to reduce it.
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 30th that it will plant 10 million trees by 2022 to reduce fine dust and respond to climate change, creating a future-oriented green city.
The county plans to invest 1 billion KRW in the first half of this year to create Boseong symbolic (specialized) forests and resident participation forests by utilizing leftover land or vacant lots within the jurisdiction such as residents' living areas, roadsides, schools, and abandoned land next to railroads.
In addition, near residents' living areas and tourist resorts such as Boseong Station, Beolgyo-eup Jangyang Fishing Village Experience Center, Yeoja Bay Jungdo Bangjuk-gil, unused spaces of middle and high schools in Joseong-myeon, Deukryang Ten Million Roses Thirty-ri Road, and Yulpo Samgeori vacant lot, Boseong forest parks will be created.
In particular, to solve problems such as pollutants and noise generated from the railroad passing through the city center, artificial ponds and aquatic purification plants will be planted near the railroad, and tree arrangements for noise prevention will improve the quality of life for residents.
Not only tree planting but also planting herbs and wild grasses for mental and physical relaxation will promote health and provide residents with resting spaces to enjoy relaxation in their daily lives.
To reduce project costs, trees to be planted will be maximally utilized from donated trees, trees to be removed for other project implementations, and trees that must be transplanted due to residents' damage complaints.
A county official said, “Boseong forest parks will be provided as resting places, health, recreation, and healing spaces not only for local residents but also for tourists visiting the Boseong area, and we plan to continuously expand the project to make Boseong-gun a good place to live and enjoy life.”
