Emergency Support for Young Small Business Owners and Vulnerable Groups to Overcome COVID-19 Damage... Strengthening Social Safety Net through Urgent Market Access for Young Entrepreneurs and Support for Vulnerable Groups

Gwanak-gu Young Small Business Owners COVID-19 Overcome 'Happiness Sharing Lunchbox Support Project' 추진

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is stepping up support for young small business owners and socially vulnerable groups struggling due to COVID-19.

The district is promoting the "Gwanak Youth Small Business Owners Happiness Sharing Lunchbox Support Project" to compensate for sales losses of local young small business owners suffering from prolonged COVID-19 and to assist socially vulnerable groups at risk of food insecurity.

This aims to reduce the economic burden on young small business owners caused by the recent spread of COVID-19 in the community and to secure a social safety net for vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone and single-parent families affected by the closure of multi-use facilities they frequent.

By securing 70.6 million KRW from Seoul City's "Emergency Support Fund for Young Small Business Owners," starting in April, five local comprehensive social welfare centers (▲Seonui Gwanak ▲Bongcheon ▲Jungang ▲Sillim ▲Seongmin Comprehensive Social Welfare Centers) have been selected as project implementing agencies. They will receive lunchboxes manufactured and supplied by young small business owners and deliver them to about 300 socially vulnerable households.

The district expects this project to enhance the business sustainability of young small business owners by providing new sales channels and to improve the physical and psychological health of socially vulnerable groups through the provision of quality meals.

Young small business owners can apply until March 31. Applicants must be able to manufacture home-style meals (including snacks and meal replacements), and the representative must be a youth aged 19 to 39.

The contract price is up to 8,000 KRW per meal (excluding delivery costs). Small business owners wishing to participate can inquire at the relevant comprehensive social welfare center or the Gwanak-gu Youth Policy Division.

Mayor Park Junhee said, "I hope this becomes a source of strength for local small business owners and socially vulnerable groups struggling due to the spread of COVID-19 and a spark to revive the local economy. The district will mobilize all administrative capabilities to minimize the damage to residents caused by COVID-19 and do its best to return to daily life as soon as possible."
