SafetyLab Signs MOU with Dow Korea for 'Healthcare Pilot Project Utilizing Plasma Air Sterilizers'
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] LG Uplus is building a 'Silver Healthcare' solution that allows easy management of nursing facilities by utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
On the 30th, LG Uplus announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on a pilot healthcare project using plasma air sterilizers with Safety Lab, an IoT solution specialist, and Dow Korea, a healthcare device specialist.
The three companies will add wireless communication technology to plasma air sterilizers as the first solution for Silver Healthcare. Plasma air sterilizers are effective in removing bacteria and viruses from indoor air and surfaces such as door handles and desks. There is high demand for their introduction in facilities with a high risk of airborne infections. The plasma air sterilizers jointly developed by Safety Lab and Dow Korea are currently used in 119 emergency vehicles of fire departments in Gangwon-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Daegu, Busan, and Ulsan, as well as in Pohang Medical Center, Andong Medical Center, and Gimcheon Medical Center.
The three companies will conduct a demonstration of healthcare services using plasma air sterilizers. Specifically, they plan to develop and demonstrate technologies such as ▲remote control and monitoring based on wireless communication (LTE) ▲automatic air quality management within facilities ▲two-way emergency calls in urgent situations ▲automatic connection to the person in charge upon detection of abnormal changes, by the second half of the year.
Along with this, LG Uplus plans to discover various devices suitable for Silver Healthcare, such as a 'fall detection sensor' that detects fall accidents among the elderly, and launch an official service next year focusing on health status, safety, and hygiene.
Cho Wonseok, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate New Business Group at LG Uplus, said, "We expect to increase operational efficiency of facilities through various solutions combined with communication in Silver Healthcare facilities," and added, "We will continue to strengthen cooperation with companies that have healthcare-related technologies aiming for commercialization next year."
Bae Junhyung, CEO of Dow Korea, said, "Recently, small and medium enterprises have been facing difficulties despite having excellent technologies due to the challenging economic situation caused by COVID-19. Through this win-win collaboration, we are grateful to LG Uplus for providing an opportunity to pioneer markets with more innovative products."
