Jongno-gu Disinfection Team Composed of Local Residents Takes Charge of Sanitization... Main Activity Sites Include Public Office Buildings, Bus Stops... Applying Disinfectant-Soaked Cloths to Frequently Touched Elevator Buttons, Handrails, and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jongno-gu (Mayor Kim Young-jong) is strengthening preventive disinfection of public facilities and supporting residents' self-quarantine efforts, prioritizing residents' health and safety to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The disinfection is carried out by residents who are well aware of vulnerable areas in the district. The 'Jongno-gu Disinfection Team,' which held its launch ceremony at the Gu Office Hanuri Hall on February 26, received safety training on indoor and outdoor disinfection methods, disinfectant usage, and precautions, and has been actively engaged in disinfection activities to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the area.
To minimize environmental pollution, COVID-19 dedicated equipment is being used, and infection prevention guidelines are also being promoted to facility workers and users, contributing to alleviating residents' anxiety.
Additionally, private facilities or residential areas that request disinfection are thoroughly sanitized, and residents are guided on how to disinfect and use disinfectants.
This enhanced disinfection follows the guidelines of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, applying disinfectant soaked in cloth to surfaces carefully to avoid liquid splashing and aerosol generation.
Furthermore, to prevent cross-contamination, related equipment is disinfected after cleaning each area, and equipment made of absorbent materials is discarded.
The main locations for strengthened preventive disinfection include public institution buildings, sports, cultural, and social welfare facilities, and bus stops. Special focus is placed on frequently touched areas such as elevator buttons, handrails, door handles, and switches.
Jongno-gu is conducting a "Disinfection Equipment Rental Project" through its 17 community service centers, distributing disinfectors and chemicals to residents who want them, striving to protect the health of the citizens.
To assist residents with 'self-quarantine,' Sajik-dong has been accepting rental applications from residents and business operators since the 27th. Applicants need to bring their ID and visit the community center; the equipment must be used within 24 hours after application and then returned.
Also, disinfectants are stocked at the Sajik-dong Community Center and in front of each neighborhood leader’s house, allowing any resident who brings their own container to take as much as needed, enhancing convenience. For more details about disinfection equipment rental, please contact the nearest community service center.
Mayor Kim Young-jong stated, "We are actively responding by disinfecting various places in the district and expanding testing targets to prevent the local spread of COVID-19. We will devote all administrative efforts until COVID-19 ends, prioritizing residents' health and safety." He added, "In this global crisis, we ask everyone to thoroughly manage personal hygiene and normalize disinfection practices to help end COVID-19."
