Dongdaemun-gu, Maintenance of Neglected and Aged Signboards

Prevention of Safety Accidents and Improvement of Urban Aesthetics Due to Disasters Such as Strong Winds and Heavy Rain

Dongdaemun-gu, Maintenance of Neglected and Aged Signboards

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yu Deok-yeol) is promoting the '2020 Abandoned and Aged Signboard Maintenance Project' to create a safe and clean urban landscape.

The district plans to maintain outdoor fixed advertisements such as signboards abandoned due to business relocation or closure, and signboards with old equipment posing a high risk of falling, from this month until December of this year.

Building owners wishing to have signboards removed can download the 'Outdoor Fixed Advertisement Removal Consent Form' from the Dongdaemun-gu Office website (www.ddm.go.kr), fill it out, and submit it in person or by fax to the Construction Management Division of Dongdaemun-gu Office.

Based on the submitted documents, the district will conduct on-site inspections and, if deemed appropriate for maintenance, proceed with removal through a specialized service company. To alleviate the financial burden on residents facing economic difficulties due to COVID-19, all removal costs will be supported by the district.

Additionally, to prevent safety accidents caused by advertisements during natural disasters such as strong winds and heavy rain, safety inspections of approximately 200 fixed advertisements on rooftops, walls, and bulletin boards will be entrusted to specialized institutions.

Yu Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "Through this project, we can make the streets of Dongdaemun-gu more pleasant," and added, "We will continue to do our best to create a safe walking environment and a pleasant urban environment for residents."
