Below 100% Median Income... 37,000 Households in Yongsan-gu Targeted... 300,000 to 500,000 KRW Support per Household... Choose Between Gift Certificates or Prepaid Cards
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun) began accepting applications for the ‘Seoul-type Emergency Disaster Living Expenses’ starting from the 30th.
The support targets households with an income at or below 100% of the median income (the median income is the midpoint of national household income), benefiting approximately 37,000 households within Yongsan-gu.
This accounts for about 30% of all households. However, households receiving government COVID-19 support (temporary living support for low-income groups, special care coupon support, living expense support, paid leave expense support), emergency welfare recipients, participants in job projects (for seniors, social contribution, New Deal), and unemployment benefit recipients are excluded from eligibility.
The support amount ranges from 300,000 KRW (for 1-2 person households) to 500,000 KRW (for households of 5 or more).
Those wishing to apply can do so by May 15 through the Seoul Welfare Portal (http://wiss.seoul.go.kr). Similar to the public mask purchase (5-day rotation system), applications are accepted only on the day corresponding to the last digit of the applicant’s birth year. For example, those whose birth year ends in 1 or 6 can apply on Monday, and those ending in 2 or 7 on Tuesday.
From the day after the general election (April 16), applications can also be submitted in person at the local community service centers. Applicants must bring identification.
After receiving the application, the district office will send a confirmation text message to the applicant. It is expected to take up to 7 days from approval to payment.
Applicants can choose between Yongsan Love Gift Certificates (mobile) or prepaid cards as the method of support. If selecting the mobile gift certificate, which can only be used at Zero Pay affiliated stores, an additional 10% benefit will be provided. The validity period for using the gift certificates and prepaid cards is until the end of June.
To ensure smooth operation of the project, the district has formed a ‘Disaster Emergency Living Expenses Support Task Force’ led by the deputy district mayor. Four teams will operate: integrated investigation, operation, personnel management, and monitoring.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, stated, “We are launching the Seoul-type Emergency Disaster Living Expenses support to help citizens who have suffered direct or indirect damage due to COVID-19,” and added, “We will thoroughly manage the process to prevent any issues during project implementation.”
For inquiries, contact the Yongsan-gu Welfare Policy Division or the local community service center.
