[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] Multiple foreign media outlets including CNN reported that on the 29th, a plane that took off from Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines to transport a patient exploded, killing a total of 8 people including passengers and crew members.

At around 8 p.m. local time on the 29th, Ryan Air flight RPC 5880, which took off from Ninoy Aquino International Airport heading to Haneda Airport in Japan, exploded, resulting in 8 deaths, according to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

The Manila International Airport Authority stated, "Investigators from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines' Aircraft Accident Investigation Board have been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the incident, which has led to a temporary closure of the runway."

The Ryan Air flight RPC 5880 involved in the accident was reported to have on board medical personnel including doctors and nurses, patients and their companions, as well as crew members.

According to an initial report released by a Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines official, the passengers on the accident flight included a Canadian patient, an American companion, three medical staff, and three crew members.

Citizens near the airport who witnessed the accident said that the plane caught fire immediately upon taking off from the end of the runway, followed by a loud explosion and the plane crashing.

A representative from the Manila International Airport Authority announced, "Firefighters and rescue teams responded immediately after the accident and carried out extinguishing operations, but were unable to save the lives of those on board."
