Gangnam-gu Reports 4 New COVID-19 Cases, Including 2 International Students


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 29th, four new confirmed cases, including two international students, were reported in Gangnam-gu, increasing the number of overseas arrivals among confirmed cases in Gangnam-gu to 20, including 13 international students.


The 44-year-old husband and 9-year-old elementary school daughter of a woman who tested positive as the 28th confirmed case after arriving with their international student daughter and staying at their home in Dogok-dong were tested at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center yesterday morning and confirmed positive as the 29th confirmed cases.


A 21-year-old female university student enrolled at a university in the United Kingdom arrived at Incheon International Airport on the morning of the 27th at 8 a.m. on British Airways flight BA0017 from London Heathrow Airport after the school opening was postponed due to COVID-19. She stayed at her home in Nonhyeon-dong and tested positive at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center on the morning of the 28th.


Also, a 51-year-old housewife living in Ilwon-dong, Gangnam-gu, who had visited New York, USA, since January 21 and stayed there for about two months, arrived at Incheon Airport at 5 p.m. on the 27th on Asiana Airlines flight OZ221 from New York. She was tested at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center on the afternoon of the 28th and confirmed positive.


Gangnam-gu notified the Incheon Airport Quarantine Station of the flight details of the three newly confirmed overseas arrivals, conducted epidemiological investigations on these confirmed cases, disinfected their apartments and movement paths, enforced self-quarantine for contacts, and is currently transferring them to hospitals.


On the 28th alone, 149 people, including 43 arrivals from Europe and the United States and 106 general citizens, were tested at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center, with four confirmed positive, showing a steady increase in confirmed cases among overseas arrivals daily.


Therefore, those arriving from overseas such as the United States and Europe are strongly urged to get tested at the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center, Samsung Seoul Hospital, or Gangnam Severance Hospital within three days of arrival regardless of symptoms and to strictly observe a two-week self-quarantine period.
